Interview: Philip Hillman on the alternative residential sector

Philip Hillman is the Chairman of UK and EMEA Living Capital Markets for global corporate real estate professionals, JLL, and will be Chairing our annual Alternative Residential Property conference in September. We asked Philip for an overview of the sector as it stands currently and what the future of alternative resi could look like.

The rise of flexible space developments

Is there any such thing as the typical British nuclear family in 2019? As discussed in our recent interview with UK planning expert, Roger Hepher, the need for a standard three-bedroom home has fast changed over the years, with more unmarried couples, those without children or those raising them singularly, house shares and otherwise ‘unconventional households.

Interview: Roger Hepher on planning and viability in 2019

Roger Hepher is a Director for HGH Consulting and one of the UK’s most experienced planning consultants, who will be joining us as Chair at September’s Viability and Planning conference 2019. We caught up with him to discuss the current challenges within planning and viability practices and things to look out for in the coming months.

What to expect from an LD Events conference

Something we often get asked at LD Events is what exactly can be expected from a day attending one of our conferences. We know that agendas can be difficult to visualise, and you’ll want to get the most out of attending, so here’s a rundown of what you can expect on the day.

Market analyses, political overviews and opinion polls

We regularly host property market research experts with the latest opinion polls around consumer confidence and behaviour, statistics on UK housing situations and market growth, providing an overview on the current climate and highlighting the opportunities and challenges presenting themselves within the industry.

We’re also lucky to welcome political experts from time to time, providing updates on the current political and economic environment and how this is impacting property as a whole, as well as more granularly region to region.

Expert perspectives

One aspect that our delegates tell us they find the most interesting about attending our property conferences is the variety of different perspectives brought to the event. You can expect to hear presentations, seminars and panel discussions involving experts from the following areas:

  • Investment
  • Development
  • Construction
  • Manufacture
  • Design
  • Planning
  • Marketing and sales
  • Technology and innovation

As well as opportunities to pose questions to the experts, speakers will utilise case studies and real-life examples to draw upon for further insight, and you can also expect forward-thinking sessions that focus on how technology and innovation is changing the way we design and build.

Refreshments and networking

Each of our conferences attract hundreds of delegates from across the UK, EU and worldwide, so we make plenty of time for networking between talks and discussions, encouraging attendees to make connections that can be mutually beneficial for their line of work. A typical day at one of our conferences will present networking opportunities upon arrival, during the mid-morning session, around lunchtime and as the event draws to a close, with a post-conference drinks reception.

And, of course, we’ll ensure you are well looked after throughout the day, with a variety of refreshments you can help yourself to. Expect teas, coffee, smoothies and pastries in the morning, with canapes and light bites to see you through until lunchtime, where there will be nutritious options to suit everyone.

Our next events are just around the corner. We’ll be hosting the Student Housing Conference 2019 on Tuesday 14th May and the Site Finding and Development Conference 2019 on Tuesday 21st May. You can book your place for any of our conferences here.
