Interview: Henry Lumby on the retirement living sector in 2019

Henry Lumby is the Managing Director of retirement living operations, development and finance specialist, Amicala, and the former Head of Retirement Living at Savills. We caught up with Henry to talk about where the UK retirement living market is now in 2019, where it’s headed and how the industry can deliver at scale.

The evolution of retirement living

It’s a known fact that the current UK population is ageing. We’re taking a look at the evolution of retirement living so far to analyse key drivers and challenges within the market.

Interview: Lawrence Bowles on the influence of alternative residential markets

We sat down with Research Analyst, Lawrence Bowles, to discuss the influence of alternative residential developments on traditional residential markets.

What to expect from an LD Events conference

Something we often get asked at LD Events is what exactly can be expected from a day attending one of our conferences. We know that agendas can be difficult to visualise, and you’ll want to get the most out of attending, so here’s a rundown of what you can expect on the day.

Market analyses, political overviews and opinion polls

We regularly host property market research experts with the latest opinion polls around consumer confidence and behaviour, statistics on UK housing situations and market growth, providing an overview on the current climate and highlighting the opportunities and challenges presenting themselves within the industry.

We’re also lucky to welcome political experts from time to time, providing updates on the current political and economic environment and how this is impacting property as a whole, as well as more granularly region to region.

Expert perspectives

One aspect that our delegates tell us they find the most interesting about attending our property conferences is the variety of different perspectives brought to the event. You can expect to hear presentations, seminars and panel discussions involving experts from the following areas:

  • Investment
  • Development
  • Construction
  • Manufacture
  • Design
  • Planning
  • Marketing and sales
  • Technology and innovation

As well as opportunities to pose questions to the experts, speakers will utilise case studies and real-life examples to draw upon for further insight, and you can also expect forward-thinking sessions that focus on how technology and innovation is changing the way we design and build.

Refreshments and networking

Each of our conferences attract hundreds of delegates from across the UK, EU and worldwide, so we make plenty of time for networking between talks and discussions, encouraging attendees to make connections that can be mutually beneficial for their line of work. A typical day at one of our conferences will present networking opportunities upon arrival, during the mid-morning session, around lunchtime and as the event draws to a close, with a post-conference drinks reception.

And, of course, we’ll ensure you are well looked after throughout the day, with a variety of refreshments you can help yourself to. Expect teas, coffee, smoothies and pastries in the morning, with canapes and light bites to see you through until lunchtime, where there will be nutritious options to suit everyone.

Our next events are just around the corner. We’ll be hosting the Student Housing Conference 2019 on Tuesday 14th May and the Site Finding and Development Conference 2019 on Tuesday 21st May. You can book your place for any of our conferences here.
